Where the ring came from
The Still Ring is made by a quiet maker named Iris Calder, who has been engraving the same prayer into the same kind of ring by hand for eleven years.
She made the first one for herself, after a year she was still in the middle of. She made the next few for people who came to her workshop and noticed her wearing it. The lettering on her own ring is worn smooth in places from a decade of her thumb finding it.
She didn't set out to make a brand. She set out to make a thing that could live where the moments live — on the hand, in the conversation, in the half-second before the automatic version of you takes over.
I came home from a trip to her workshop and asked if she'd ever consider letting more people have what she'd given me.
She said she'd been waiting for someone to ask.
How the ring works
